Auburn was one out, one pitch from celebrating a win against Florida State on Sunday night and advancing to the Super Regional.
But a 2-out walk and run-scoring triple sent the game into extra innings and another 2-out rally in the 10th inning forced a winner-takes-all rematch Monday night in Tallahassee.
Can Butch Thompson get his team mentally ready for the decisive game? That will be his challenge, among other things.

What you should know about Auburn vs. FSU
Auburn put itself in position to win the Tallahassee Regional with a pair of strong outings from its two ace pitchers Keegan Thompson and Casey Mize. The two right-handers delivered dominating victories Friday and Saturday. Then Cole Lipscomb, Auburn’s top reliever pitched 7.2 innings in the loss to Florida State on Sunday. So where does that leave the Tigers’ pitching staff for the biggest game of the season? Good question.
The Tigers could turn to Gabe Klobosits, who started three games during the season and owns a 4.64 ERA, or Andrew Mitchell, who took the loss Sunday night in a 1-inning performance in which he allowed two walks before giving way to Calvin Coker.
Whatever Thompson decides, he’ll have to be creative. Could Keegan Thompson or Mize return for limited appearances? Thompson tossed 119 pitches on Friday and Mize’s complete game Saturday totaled 99.
Auburn has little time to forget about what happened Sunday. With a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the ninth, Lipscomb retired FSU’s first two batters before a 2-out walk was followed by a game-tying triple. In the 10th, Andrew Mitchell got the first two batters out, but that was followed by a pair of walks, an infield single and a Coker hit a batter to force in the winning run.
