Sound Off: Can Florida realistically use three quarterbacks against Michigan?

The Florida Gators are getting closer to their marquee season-opener against Michigan. With each passing day, the fanbase is getting more excited, the Gators are getting amped up to play in AT&T Stadium and coach Jim McElwain has less time to answer all the questions he has about his team before they kick off against the Wolverines. SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi and Jordan McPherson discuss all this and more in the latest Zaxby’s Sound Off.

  • With the season opener about a week-and-a-half away, the quarterback competition is still in the “too close to call” phase. Luke Del Rio, Feleipe Franks and Malik Zaire are still rotating first-team reps on an almost equal basis and McElwain said Wednesday that all three quarterbacks could potentially play in the season opener. We break down the strengths and weaknesses of each quarterback. (1:30)
  • While McElwain has yet to officially declare a starter, we decided to take our guess as to who we  will take the first snap under center and why. (4:00)
  • After two years of staying humble and downplaying his team’s potential, McElwain has found his swagger when talking to the fanbase. First, it was his appearance at a Florida men’s basketball game where he said the Gators were going to “kick the door down” when they get back to the SEC Championship. Most recently, it was his statement at Florida’s Rally in The Swamp pep rally on Sunday when he said the Gators are “going to beat the heck out of Michigan.” McElwain knows his team is the underdog in the eyes of the national pundits, but that hasn’t stopped him from feeling any less confident that his team can pull out the upset just like the Gators did against Ole Miss in 2015 and LSU in 2016.
