Tennessee-Georgia series history
Tennessee leads the all-time series against Georgia, 23-21-2, after a pair of dramatic victories the past two seasons.
2016: Georgia freshman QB Jacob Eason hit Riley Ridley for a 47-yard TD pass with 10 seconds left in the game to give the Bulldogs a 31-28 lead and what looked like a certain victory. But after a short kickoff and 20-yard return by Evan Berry, Tennessee QB Josh Dobbs’ Hail Mary landed in the hands of Jauan Jennings for a 43-yard touchdown and victory on the final play of the game. Vols win, 34-31.
2015: The Bulldogs raced out to a 24-3 lead with just 3 minutes left in the opening half, but a pair of Dobbs TD passes cut the halftime margin to 24-17. With the game tied at 31-apiece, Dobbs (312 passing yards, 3 TDs, 118 rushing yards, 2 TDs) scored from the 5 with 5:48 left in the game to give the Vols a 38-31 advantage. After the two teams traded punts, Georgia took over on its 1 with less than 2 minutes to drive the length of the field. Greyson Lambert got the Bulldogs to the 27, but his final-play toss into the corner of the end zone to Malcolm Mitchell was broken up and the Vols were winners.
- Before Tennessee’s victories the last two seasons, Georgia had won five in a row in the series.
- The Vols won 9 consecutive games in the series from 1989 to 1999, their longest in the matchup.
- Georgia’s longest win streak against Tennessee is 5 wins.
