After beating down LSU, 37-7, several weeks ago, Mississippi State rose to No. 17 in the AP Top 25 and looked like a team ready to contend in the SEC and maybe nationally.

Then came a 31-3 loss at Georgia followed by a 49-10 shellacking at Auburn. The Bulldogs tumbled from the polls and tumbled from as high as No. 3 in the SEC Country Power Poll to the middle of the pack.

The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-2) are coming off their bye week and face BYU at home on Saturday in Starkville.

In the Week 6 SEC Country Power Poll, the 26 voters kept Mississippi State at No. 7. The Bulldogs were voted as high as fourth and as low as 10th.

After playing a nonconference game against the Cougars this week, Mississippi State has back-to-back league games against Kentucky and Texas A&M before another nonconference opponent in UMass. The Bulldogs finish with No. 1 Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss.
